Artist Statement

In my work, I strive to bring awareness to the ever encroaching mental health crisis in our current society. Using clay as a medium, I investigate body dysmorphia that takes the shape of figurative sculptures. This medium allows me to most accurately represent, contort and disfigure the human form that aids in the discussion of the mental health crisis. Through this lens, I encourage the viewer to “step into the shoes” of those who are afflicted by this disorder. Through my work, I invoke feelings of anxiety and discomfort and reinforce this by “activating” the environment through the use of peering eyes and symbolism revolving around induced anxiety.
